Engineering Note
Inspect the Track Before Installing a New Cam Follower

A new cam follower runs on the old track. If that track is pitted, grooved, misaligned or contaminated, the replacement bearing inherits the same contact problem. Track inspection belongs in the replacement job, especially after a follower has failed prematurely.
Look for Contact Clues
Uneven polishing across the outer ring, edge marks, local pitting and a visible groove in the track can point to misalignment or concentrated contact. Check the stud mounting face at the same time.
Record the Operating Context
Include cycle rate, contamination, lubrication access and any shock or reversal in the enquiry. Those details help distinguish a simple wear replacement from a mechanism issue that needs broader review.
